statement of intent
My magazine is aimed at 11-13 year old children, mainly girls, though a few boys may be interested in the magazine as it is more about dog training than pictures of puppies and kittens. It is going to be called DOG TALK as the magazine will be based upon dogs, training them and ways to engage with your dog. I will be choosing a blue harness for my dog to wear as blue has connotations of calmness, peace, kindness and love. It also shows that he is a boy and stands out against his coat. I will be choosing a large font that is large and eye-catching. This would interest a 10-13 year old as they would be attracted to the bright colour and large letters on the front page. I will use a long shot on the front cover as it would show his personality while he is in the field and close ups or medium shots in the double page spread as they would be easier to see while he is doing the tricks. This would interest my target audience because they would have a variety of camera shots to see how to train the tricks or view my dog’s personality while off lead. On the double page spread, I will place the photos of each trick next to the steps to teach it to indicate to the reader that this is what the finished trick should look like. I plan to use stereotypes such as using a small/medium size and fluffy dog as the model for my magazine, as people, especially children, are likely to perceive him as friendly, even though many short-haired big dogs are friendly as well.
